Sify at Enterprise Learning China
November 2008: Sify was well represented at Enterprise Learning held in Shanghai, China.

Devraj Shetty and Thejaswini Unni were among the key speakers. Devraj spoke on the major trends in learning.

A number of trends are becoming apparent across the globe in general, and in China, the trends are:
  • Ageing workforce that would be reaching retirement age in the coming decade
  • Young workforce to be "sucked" into filling the positions vacated by the ageing workforce
  • Technology becoming all-pervasive; even rural areas being exposed to technologies such as broadband, mobile phones, and ATM
  • People are no longer willing to accept "generalized" solutions; every individual expects "tailored/customized" solutions
  • The need for people to connect and collaborate because that makes them feel part of "things" that are larger than themselves
  • These trends have a special significance for learning in general, and eLearning in particular. Learning has to cater to a young and a restless audience that expects learning to be "customized" and delivered in Anywhere/Anytime/Anyone Learning environments through a variety of technology and tools, such as interactive eLearning, Avatar-based Virtual Learning Environments, Gaming/Simulations, and Mobile learning.
Thejaswini spoke on learning needs analysis that helps in rapidly developing competence in a Fortune Top 10 global diversified corporation.

One of the fastest growing, high-technology divisions of a Fortune Top 10 global diversified corporation was faced with the twin challenges of developing competencies quickly among its newly hired workforce and to "capture" the learning needs analysis (LNA) across the United States and Europe. The three-month LNA involved surveys, telephonic
interviews, face-to-face stakeholder meetings, and shop-floor visits, which used scientific data analysis tools to study historical data such as customer/employee satisfaction surveys, quality reports, and defect logs. The LNA deliverables included Role-based Competency Model, Training Gap Analysis Report, Development and Delivery Roadmap, and Competency.
